When British sailors stationed in 1750s Menorca asked for gin, local farmers improvised with what the island actually grew: Cava grapes instead of grain. That workaround became Gin de Mahón, a protected Denominación de Origen distilled in wood-fired copper stills over two centuries old, harborside, with wild juniper dropped straight into the pot. The grape base gives round, faintly vinous warmth beneath forward juniper, Mediterranean herbs, and a saline whisper. Bottled at 38% ABV. Menorcans drink it as pomada, gin stirred with cloudy lemonade.
